You want to play the game, you'd better know the rules, love.

Or

Choose wisely

Just because a man's lying down doesn't mean he's dead!

I saw the Wes Craven movie The People Under the Stairs
and when they showed this one zombie, I couldn't help
but think about how much he looked like Sebastian Bach
from the band Skid Row. Yeah...my mind, rules. I seriously
IMDB'd the movie cast just to see if it was him. Alas,
it was not. I did find the image I chose of Sebastian Bach
funny just for the fact that he is wearing a shirt that says his name.
Like my 5 year old does.
hmmm...anyway.

I have standards

Mike Donovan: [about killing the boys] I couldn't help myself.
I couldn't. Please, you have to understand.

Dexter Morgan: Trust me, I definitely understand.
See, I can't help myself either. But children -
I could never do that. Not like you. Never, ever kids.

Mike Donovan: Why?

Dexter Morgan: I have standards.

Hey, hey, I've seen this one. I've seen this one. This is a classic.

It's that kind of day where an old movie is refreshing. Today's movie...Back to the Future. I love this movie for the nostalgia of it all. Not just the references to stuff that I completely understand now that I am older but it reminds me of my youth and when I first saw this movie. How Huey Lewis "Power of Love" was the jam I waited to hear on the radio (That's right..waited, and don't act like you didn't love it too). As I was watching it, I realized a couple of things.

One, my memory for 80's movie dialog is ridiculous. "1.21 gigawatts? 1.21 gigawatts? Great Scott! "........"What-what the hell is a gigawatt?" knew this..for no reason whatsoever this information sits dormant in my brain until called upon 20 years later.

Two, there is a strange similarity in the looks department between Marty McFly's sister Linda McFly and Ugly Betty.

See it???!!??

Three, this movie is so well thought out with great scenes...like this one:

I now end this post with the song that has been in my head all afternoon.

Damn you Huey Lewis and the News...DAMN YOU!

Why is a raven like a writing desk?

Every time I see the ad with the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland I think of Elijah Wood.

My cat stepped on the remote

I like all movies. I can see "chick flicks", action, drama, mystery, whatever. But there are those movies, regardless of how much I know in advance what to expect, I find myself disappointed. I saw the movie The Ugly Truth last night. Thank you Netflix. My first thoughts before even seeing this movie were "I like Katherine Heigl" "She was cute in 27 Dresses and Knocked Up". Not so much a fan of Gerard Butler but hey, how bad can he be? "P.S. I Love You" was cute.

WRONG.

The concept of the movie... A morning producer is struggling with ratings and without a choice has to work with chauvinistic talent to boost ratings and falls in love with the guy.

A classic tale, right? Boy meets girl, boy is truthfully mean. Girl finds this strangely appealing (because we are 1 part girl 2 part crazy for guys who don't give a sh*t). Boy becomes girls friend to help her get the guy she wants. Boy starts to like the girl. Boy and girl have awkward kiss in an elevator. Girl is confused. Both decide nothing happened (with surprisingly NO MONTAGE in the movie by the way...(whats a montage?? Click here)). Girl gets mad on television show, boy sees this. Both meet so they can flirt via yelling and decide they love each other...

...in a hot air balloon.

Roll credits with hip billboard top 100 song.

What did I expect really? I don't even know why I'm disappointed.

Weekend plans await. The Library and Dexter books to checkout.

Oh yeah... I'm living the dream.

No one is satisfied with his fortune, nor dissatisfied with his intellect

I was watching the movie "Milk" the other day. A great movie by the way. I highly recommend it! I didn't realize how far back the gay rights issue went. I guess I was too young to comprehend it back then or too sheltered. The same issues in part still exist almost a century later. It's amazing. I have such a hard time understanding how this is an issue today. I think issues like Prop 8 are ones that in the future our childrens' children are going to read about and be baffled at how our society alienated a select group of people.

We come so far and still have such a distance to travel.

On a totally random side note, when I was watching Milk there was a scene where they were all eating Chinese food out of those little boxes. I love eating out of those Chinese boxes!! I miss them. Now its Styrofoam containers which just aren't the same.

Was that a random enough side note?

Want more?

Did I ever tell you I was struck by lightning seven times?

I watched the movie "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" this weekend. I had heard some bad reviews about this movie but I've never been disappointed with the movies Brad Pitt is in. So here I am 7 months later giving it a view. I thought the movie was really well done. It reminded me of the Tim Burton movie Big Fish for some reason. Probably just for the narration aspect. But I enjoyed it. Such a beautiful story. Made me cry and I rarely cry at movies. I think the last time I cried at a movie was The Notebook. Another beautiful but sad story. Sigh...

I've been learning Sony Vegas and created a few videos to share. One is scenes from the movie The Notebook. mixed with the song The Test by The Academy Is.

Youth has no age

I haven't had a lot to say over the last few days hence no blog. Oh and I have been feeling lazy. I think the lazy part is more of the issue. But now here I am.

I saw the movie 17 Again. Oh my god like Zac Efron is like so hot! Um..yeah so anyways...I saw 17 Again and it was actually a really cute movie. It's about a guy named Mike who has passed up what he thinks was a big opportunity as a basketball star instead to be with his girlfriend who gets pregnant in high school. Fast forward to Mike living with his rich nerd friend (who is hilarious by the way) from high school and being in the midst of a divorce with 2 teenage kids that want nothing to do with him. Mike goes to his old high school and is visited by a spirit guide of sorts that leads him back to being 17...again. Mike, who enrolls back in school as Mark, is able to help his son become the star basketball player and is able to see his daughter out of a rotten relationship with the classic school jerk..I mean jock. All ends well with the life lesson of appreciating what you have and not living in the past. Super cute and funny movie!

Would you go back if you could to being 17 again? Hmmm...I have to say I'm not sure about that one. Sure there are regrets or missed opportunities but I think sometimes changing any one of those would alter the course of so much that maybe you would just be in another time with different regrets or missed opportunities. I think we need those experiences to help us learn and grow as people...

Here is a clip of the movie 17 Again.

There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right.

I watched a documentary called Heckler. Jamie Kennedy asks hecklers of his own work about their mean attacks on his character as a person and not just his movies. Jamie also talks to a wide range of comedians about their views on hecklers and critics. I love documentaries! I think this one was well done and really sheds light on how vicious people can be when calling out a movie they think sucks.

It made me think about how good writing is such a lost art when it comes to reviews. A lot of the reviews mentioned reminded me of college and learning about effective arguments. So many critics follow the ad hominem arguments that attack the person rather than the content. As if saying something sucks or someone sucks automatically discredits who that person is or stands for. I wish I could say I wouldn't be bothered by critics but that's untrue. I would buckle just like Jamie Kennedy. Its hard to hear such mean things whether true or not. People can be heartless. Work, relationships, friendships...opinions and critiques effect us no matter how hard our exterior seems.

The one thing I do have to say though is during the Heckler documentary I thought it was ironic that comedians and actors were speaking about critics being so mean when many of the comedians interviewed make a living critiquing others. I digress...

I really enjoyed this film. There were a lot of thoughtful and insightful interviews.

Netflix it.

I always wondered, when a butterfly leaves the safety of its cocoon, does it realize how beautiful it has become? Or does it still just see itself as a caterpillar?

This weekend has been a catch up on old movies kind of weekend and by old, I mean not that old. I'm just out of touch with current films. I saw 'Slumdog Millionaire' and thought it was really well done. A must see if you are like me and didn't see it until it was out on DVD. Another movie I saw was 'The Air I Breathe'. I enjoyed this one. It reminded me of the movie 'Crash' with the intertwining of events. A Netflix recommend that went well. :) I would recommend this one.

So, I have been a fan of Madonna since I was 9 with "Like a Virgin" being completely forbidden in my house but loved by me anyway. But does anyone else find this picture disturbing? It reminds me of an anatomy poster I would see at the doctors office. She is a workout away from losing skin and becoming a total anatomy model. It's creepy.

I was wondering, just between us girls, what did you say to Pai Mei to make him snatch out your eye?

It's Sunday. Movie choices are slim these days. Whenever I see that movies like Bio-Dome are on, I feel like I am being cheated out of my money for cable. Who is watching this? Why is this even an option in the movie rotation? sigh....

So after weeding through the infomercials and televangelists, I found Kill Bill 2 on TNT. Not a fan of commercials during movies but I love this movie. I just watched the scene where I pretty much hold my breath the whole time from feeling just as claustrophobic...

Pink Panther 2

Wrestle Jam

I saw the movie The Wrestler this weekend. The movie is about a aging wrestler who has a heart attack and has to come to terms with not being able to do the one thing he has known. He comes to terms with it for a short time, revisits his daughter who he forgot about for years, kinda sorta falls in love, but then its back in the ring for a final rematch. A Soprano style ending and done. If you think this movie is like Rocky, its not. I kinda wanted something to work out for Mickey Rourke's character, The Ram, but it never did. There is no triumph in the end. Not in love with a stripper named Cassidy played by Marisa Tomei, in his family, or in any aspect of The Rams life really. The soundtrack was a trip down memory lane though. I was surprised how I remembered all the lyrics to the 80s songs that were playing. I can't remember what I did yesterday but dammit I can remember a Ratt song lyric. Oh the power of music.

WTF?

Anyways, I'm off work tomorrow and I couldn't be happier. See how happy I am about it? Do you see?

I'm Free

I've had this song in my head all day. Of all the songs in the world...of all the possible choices out there for my brain to latch onto, its this:

I'm not proud. But I was surprised how well I knew all the lyrics like I was 9 years old again. Again, not proud but whatever.

The brain is a mysterious machine isn't it?

It's Top Chef time. Currently all the chefs are complaining about the god awful processed foods they are being forced to cook with.

It's hard out there for a chef. Yo.

Now dig on this

Monday...in a word? Awesome. What? No? You don't believe me? :) I tried.

You know how cable movie channels will play the same movie, good or bad, for weeks on end...sometimes even months? Top picks like Encino Man, Snakes on a Plane or White Chicks on at all hours without fail. Lately the repeat is Spiderman 3. I love Spiderman. The movies are so well done. My only gripe..well two actually is that every time I see this movie, no matter what time I turn it on or scroll to the channel it's on, the movie is at the scene where Peter Parker is doing his dance number in the jazz club. Why does Peter have to dance!? WHY?!

I don't know if I actually really hate this scene for its content or because its on every time I tune to the channel its on. Either way...thumbs down. Another gripe I have(because this is a bitch journal) is MJ. She is all jealous of Spiderman and the attention he is getting. :'(Wah I'm MJ and no one likes my acting or singing... wah...they all like Spiderman who saves people...wah... :'(

Good grief, what is wrong with me today? Maybe it is that I just got back from the mall which is customer service at its finest. I was waiting in a long line at a store and a cashier was all petting some pretentious girls dog that was brought into the store while we were all waiting to pay and get the hell out of there. I don't think I understand the whole bring your dog everywhere thing. The typical girl wearing her Uggs and oversized glasses carrying a dog like its a fragile egg about to drop. Christ.

preview before the preview

I went to see the movie Yes Man which was pretty cute. One thing that always kills me are the previews before the previews. You know where the announcer tells you to check out this new artist and you listen to a song like 5 times during your premovie experience. There is this guy that is always on right before the previews and every time I see him, I laugh. There is probably nothing wrong with him at all. Really. I know he has to be animated and over the top excited about his job but I dont know. I think closet drug addict..there I said it. His face says "yay Mr. Happy movie man" but his eyes, say "I really hate this commercial crap". I'm warped. I know. But if you know me, you know my tone. Its all in a sarcastic tone. I mean nothing...most the time.
