Bodega and Blood

I was visiting my mom out of town this weekend and
while watching her 4 channel TV..yes 4 channels,
I saw this! 88| errr.... Rather,HEARD this!! 88|

I don't think I have ever in my life welcomed
the idea that a Guitar Center commercial was on
TV...
until this.

I had a dream...

Hello ABBA and the song that I NEVER listen to. Welcome to my head.
Its spacious, although cynical at times. I'm sarcastic
about 99% of the time and will probably talk to you about
your appearance in my head for the next day or so until you leave.

Enjoy.

Start.Purge.Now.Please.

Song in my head this morning.

Let me just start off by saying a little disclaimer
about my brain and its instant recall of really bad
80's music:
I'm sorry.

I have a battle in my brain when it recalls this sort
of song which usually starts with the words WHY? WHY!?
It's like there is this rogue robot in my head going
through archive files of music to drive me insane.

And when I think the rogue robot is done..I end my day
with this is my head (Again):

EFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!

We Dont Need Another Hero

Song in my head all day.
Engage brain purge now please.

Because...

Enjoy yourself. These are the good old days you're going to miss in the years ahead.

I miss the unterrified to be wrong music of yesterday...

It's Goin Digital...woo

Something is very wrong about this.

still...
listening...
can't...
stop...

This video reminds me of learning the books of the bible in Vacation Bible School at church when I was a kid.
I've never forgotten the song or the books of the bible which, by the way, has absolutely no value in my adult life. NONE.
I wish I had a purge button on my brain. That song would be one of the first things to go.
I've said it before but I'd seriously trade in unneeded information for the space to be used
so I can remember my actual cell number when asked for it on the spot or a persons name that I was just told 5 minutes earlier.

But alas...thank god it was only the New Testament I remember and not the old. F*#k the old. Just kidding God. *whimper*

Onto something completely different............
I streamed the new Butch Walker and the Black Widows album the Spade and it is so awesome! I love the fun vibe it has.
I posted a tweet a little while ago about how this album captures the live show vibe Butch is so great at doing based on two songs I heard.
Now hearing the whole album really confirms it for me.
Bullet Belt and Suckerpunch have been repeated so many times today..Love it!

Hear for yourself...

Listen to Butch Walker and The Black Widows, The Spade.

Again.

Again.

Again.

Again.

2 words..

Seriously Awesome!

Back to school it's a bad situation Oh yeah, oh yeah

I caught this video of Hall and Oats song Adult Education on VH1 earlier.
I remember 80's videos and how absolutely weird they were even back then with their
"WTF is that going on there" style. I see a lot of this sort of
"what did I just see?" repeated in Lady Gaga videos today.
It's like a kid who has 100 crayons and wants to use them all at once!!

But seriously, watch this video and explain it.
I love the intensity of John Oates!
He is bringing it with his little stick!

BRING-ING-IT!

What the Hell?

Song in my head today. Catchy Catchy Catchy...

I'd like to thank my brain for not F*%king me with its usual M.O. of a bad song from my childhood.

Kisses brain..kisses.

What I Would Ask Butch Walker

Link: http://butchwalker.com/

I saw this interview of Butch Walker by Uber Rock and thought to myself, what questions would I ask Butch Walker? Perhaps my own little Dinner for 5 like Jon Favreau. Who thinks this at one point in their life about an artist or celeb? Perhaps contemplates the ol' dinner dilemma and 10..err 11 questions to ask? Me. I do. I am that person.

So I thought of 11 questions. That's an odd enough number. Here goes:

1. What is your writing process? Maybe this is a really amateur writers sort of question but for me, I have many methods of writing. Sometimes I start with a fraction of a melody, sometimes there are words and no music, sometimes there is just a chorus. In other words, may I have a moment inside your brain please?

2. Ever forget the lyrics? How do you recover in the midst of a song?

3. How do you handle writers block?

4. How does collaborating with others work(Amateur question again. I know)?

5. How is your liver?

6. Ever wipe out on a bike?

7. Any pet peeves about technology? From the start of your career technology has evolved from email and a website to sending instant statuses and having access to music of any kind at the click of a button. Anything you hate about it?

8. What did you have for lunch? ;) Inquiring minds...and the answer is?

9. First car as a kid?

10. Most misunderstood lyric besides the more recent Brian Adams line in Summer of '89?

11. What's it take to get a tweet back besides a "Hey it's my (Insert name here)'s birthday, (insert name here) would be so happy if you tweeted back?" or a tweet about how you only respond to birthday tweet requests?

Yes, so.that.is.it. my.questions.....sigh.

P.S. The guy in the Uber Rock interview looked so excited to be there and I mean that. No Jen sarcasm for once.

You're welcome.

Rain is not so bad...after all

So..hair bands. They get such a bad rap now but at the time, I loved it. You name a band and I can bet you their picture was probably plastered on my bedroom wall (or ceiling). My first rock concert was Warrant. I remember seeing them with Trixter and Firehouse. I was 17 and was beyond excited that my mom had let me go out into the "secular" world of seeing a music performance that wasn't at a church. Church only concerts is a whole other post entirely which I will save for another day. Thank god, right?

I think there are a lot of people who hate on the hair band era which to them I say whatever. It's music and as always, music evolves. No one is saying we should go back to it but there is a fun nostalgia to remembering it. Even singing along to it in the car at full volume *cough*. It's a part of my childhood and my life story which heavily involved and still involves music. I love all kinds of music, no matter what era or fad they may represent. To those who hate or want to forget I say don't deny your story just because the past may not seem "cool" now. It's you, and it's beautiful.

There are quite a few songs I loved by Warrant. Uncle Tom's Cabin was such a well written little story song. Bitter Pill and Let it Rain...sigh..love those ones. Even today I can remember all the words. Funny how song lyrics stick at anytime anywhere but important things like my own phone number are not as committed in my brain (Tangent much? Yes.)

Anyhoo...in remembrance of my first show and Jani Lane...here is one of my favorites.
